Marilyn Monroe (Norma Jeane Mortenson, 1926-62) was an American actress, model, and singer playing ‘blonde bombshells’ (a now outmoded term). Her films, including Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953), The Seven Year Itch (1955) and Some Like It Hot (1959) grossed $200 million (now equivalent to $2 billion) during her curtailed lifetime and career. Thrice married, the latter two being high-profile pairings, Monroe allegedly struggled with addiction and mood disorders. A rash of MAD inclusions reflects MM’s explosive presence up to her career decline and controversial death in 1962. She remains a cultural icon into the 21st Century.
