More about:
Marlon Brando (1924-2004): American actor and activist, with accolades over six decades including two Oscars. One of the first actors to bring the Stanislavski system of ‘method acting’ to the mainstream, beginning on stage in the 1940s. His early film roles were regularly pictorialised in MAD by Wallace Wood, including A Streetcar Named Desire (in ‘Sin-Doll Ella’, writer A. Meglin, #35 1957); and The Wild One (‘The Wild ½’, writer Kurtzman, #15 1954), culminating in the detailed Mutiny on the Bounty (‘Bouncy’, writer Siegel, #80 1963). Mort Drucker later held sway, ranging from The Young (‘Wrong’) Lions (#41 1958) to Apocalypse (‘A Crock o’ < Blip >’) Now (#215 1980), via the Godfather (‘Oddfather’) trilogy (#155 1972, etc.), a role which has tended to become engrained with younger viewers and readers. These are flanked by efforts from (anti-clockwise) Bill Elder (#24 1955); Bob Clarke, (#33 1957); George Woodbridge (#37 1958); Joe Orlando (#68 1962); Jack Rickard (#100 1966) and (#166 1974); Jack Davis(#181 1976); Angelo Torres (#188 1977) and (#276 1988); Harry North (#191 1977) and (#224 1981).
