Appearances of George Michael in MAD
MAD Magazine #348 • USA • 1st Edition - New York
Rick Tulka caricatured Wham! band-mates George Michael and Andrew "The Other Guy" Ridgeley in this gag from one of my favourite Desmond Devlin music-themed articles of the '90s, "The Worst MTV Contests Of All Time" (MAD #348, August '96). (Many thanks to MAD Cover Site guru Doug Gilford for finding this panel a lot faster than I ever could.)

Along with Ellen DeGeneres, Pamela Lee, O.J. Simpson and Kate Moss (among others), George Michael - fresh from a lewd-conduct arrest at a Beverly Hills washroom - sought the rock-solid advice of Dr. Drew, Adam Carolla and their "clueless guest" in "The Loveline Advice Chart for Dysfunctional Celebrities" (MAD #378, February '99). The only MAD byline for artist Joe Ciardiello, it will always be a favourite of mine, partly because of the lines writer Andrew Schwartzberg gave to the "clueless guest." ("That Roger Dangerfield guy gets no respect and all his fans love him.")
MAD Magazine #380 • USA • 1st Edition - New York
Timothy Shamey depicted George Michael (and other pop stars who had run afoul of the law, such as Billy Idol and Snoop Dogg) in this rock-star mugshot calendar offered as part of "Steve Grieve's Official Catalog of Rare, Unaffordable Rock & Roll Memorabilia." Co-written by David Shayne and Joe Raiola, it originally appeared in MAD #380 (April '99).
