Gregory Peck (1916-2003) was an Oscar-winning film actor, popular from the 1940s-70s. His rich pantheon of work, often with a moralistic message, is reflected by the variety of roles in which he was spoofed by MAD. Peck was also active in politics and his lifetime humanitarian efforts secured him the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1969. Notable films parodied in MAD include The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit (Soot-Gray Flannel) (Feldstein/Davis #29 1956); Moby (Morbid) Dick (Feldstein/Wood, #30 1956) and (Jacobs/Rickard #100 1966); The Guns of Navarone (Minestrone) (Siegel/Drucker #68 1962); Marooned (Moroned) (DeBartolo/Drucker, #138 1970); The Ominous (DeBartolo/North, #189 1977); He also had cameo appearances in Where Eagles Dare (Vultures Fare) (Siegel/Torres, #130 1969); Movie Heroes are Finks (Purvis/Drucker, #91 1964); MAD’s Academy Awards for Teenage Films (Kogen/Drucker, #258 1985); Burke’s (Buck$) Law (Siegel/Drucker, #88, 1964)
