Artist Mort Drucker and writer Stan Hart teamed up for "An Officer Ain't No Gentleman" in MAD #238 (April '83), nearly five years after satirizing Lou Gossett Jr.'s role as the villainous Henri Cloche in The Deep (parodied as "The Dip" in MAD #198, April '78).

Lou Gossett Jr. portrayed archaeologist and private detective Gideon Oliver in The ABC Mystery Movie, a 1989 experiment that also featured Peter Falk reviving his Columbo role and Burt Reynolds playing original character B.L. Stryker. Artist Angelo Torres and writer Dick DeBartolo combined all three characters (and Murder She Wrote's Jessica Fletcher, for good measure) in the late-'80s MAD satires, "The ABC Misery Movie," which originally ran in MAD #290 (October '89).
