Kirk Douglas (Issur Danielovitch, 1916-2020; father of actor Michael Douglas) was an American actor and filmmaker who shook off an impoverished childhood to become a leading box-office star throughout the 1950s, with an explosive style in westerns, war films, et al. Despite being regarded as one of the last surviving stars from Hollywood's ‘golden age’, appearing in more than 90 films and winning an honorary Oscar for lifetime achievement as actor and philanthropist, Kirk Douglas has appeared comparatively few times in MAD, a fairly rich selection of likenesses by Wallace Wood (‘Ulysses’, writer Harvey Kurtzman, MAD #27 1956); George Woodbridge (Gunfight at the OK Corral [OK!
