This magazine series is a loose Hungarian version of the MAD Magazine. The editor has not bought any official MAD licenses and therefore is not allowed to use the MAD logo, the Alfred E. Neuman mascot and all original MAD articles. The content of this magazine is limited to contributions by Hungarian and German artists.
The Kretén Magazine already existed in the past. Exactly 10 years later it was brought back to life by the editor Kristóf Szalay. According to Hungarian law, the name of a magazine may not be used by anyone else 10 years after its end. After this period the editor snatched the rights to this name.
The old Kretén magazine ended with number 100, the new Kretén sticked to this numbering and continued with number 101.
