MAD's Spitse Antwoorden op Stomme Vragen
MAD's Spitse Antwoorden op Stomme Vragen (MAD's Sharp Answers to Stupid Questions) is the third Dutch MAD paperback, featuring a collection of humorous questions and answers by Al Jaffee, a renowned contributor to MAD Magazine.
The book's cover art, typical of MAD's irreverent style, depicts a boisterous, blonde-haired character in a red sweater humorously pinning down a smaller, bearded man wearing a T-shirt that says "WHY ME WORRY?". The title, "SPITSE ANTWOORDEN OP STOMME VRAGEN" (Sharp Answers to Stupid Questions), clearly indicates the book's comedic premise. Small text boxes on the front cover offer satirical descriptions of the book:
- "It's for idiots who ask stupid questions like this... and good answers like this:"
- "It's a book of 18 by 10.5 cm and 192 pages thick!"
- "This book is meant to pay off my debts!"
- "It's a book for idiots who read the cover and then still buy it!"
The back cover features a classic MAD-style cartoon showing a man in a hat asking "May I ask something stupid?" to a disheveled, frustrated individual tied up and surrounded by objects like a fire hydrant and a money clip. The reply is "Well... one more time! And that was it!" Below the illustration, the text continues the book's theme, mockingly addressing the reader: "Are you also tired of stupid questions? Yes? No really...? Does this question start to bore you? Do you want to tear the book into pieces? Don't! Then you're missing a great opportunity. The chance to solve the problem of stupid questions. Because this book is a collection of SHARP ANSWERS TO STUPID QUESTIONS. So don't put it away yet. Better put your money down so you know if you can flatten someone with a stupid question. Got it? Oops!"
This paperback served as a compilation of some of Al Jaffee's popular "Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions" segments, translated for the Dutch audience.
