Spy vs Spy is the first Dutch-language pocket book in the MAD paperback series published by uitgeverij kontekst bv. This edition features the iconic characters the Black Spy and the White Spy, created by Cuban cartoonist Antonio Prohias. The spies, who endlessly plot and counterplot against each other, originally appeared in MAD Magazine and are known for their wordless slapstick humor and Cold War satire.

This particular edition is presented in Dutch under the title "Het laatste nieuwe geheime dossier over Spy vs Spy door Prohias", which translates to "The Latest New Secret Dossier on Spy vs Spy by Prohias."

Book Summary

The back cover humorously introduces the rivalry between the Black Spy and the White Spy, emphasizing their absurd and MAD-like nature. The text claims that even James Bond and other professional spies could learn (what not to do) from these two. It also jokingly states that the book is used by the Dutch Secret Service (BVD) for spy training, particularly referencing a fictitious foiled assassination plot against a certain “W. van Oranje.”

The text is clearly a parody in line with MAD’s satirical tone and includes warnings not to steal the book — "you are being watched."
