This wonderful and very rare hand puppet, Alfred E. Neuman (of Mad Magazine) and a 33 1/3 seven inch record Of “What…Me Worry” was bought at a estate sale over 20 years ago. If you are an Alfred E. Neuman collector this is like finding the Holy Grail.
The tag on the puppet says, “Storyland Puppets, Miniature Productions, Inc., Copyright 1960. The puppet’s head is in perfect condition and is 3.75” tall and is 7.5 inches in circumference. If you look under the clothing you will see “WHAT…ME WORRY” written on the base of his neck. He is simply beautiful. The length from the top of the head to the hem is 12 .5″ long and he has a 9″ arm span. There are not stains or tears in his blue checked shirt, with solid blue top and checked collar. His hands are off white and the bottom half of his garment is brown. As like the head the clothing is in near perfect or mint condition, as a cool addition, he comes with a brown felt cowboy hat (Why, I don’t’ know but it was on his head when we bought him!) that is in near perfect condition. It is 7.5 “long by 4.5 inches wide and fits his head perfectly.
What makes this so even more special is the Storyland Records seven inch 33 1/3 speed vinyl of “WHAT…ME WORRY.” Words and music were written by Walter Freed and the voice was Walt Leonard on Pt. 1 and on the flip side we have ” “WHAT…ME WORRY with narrative by Duane Burr and the voice was again was Walt Leonard. Part 1 is 4 minutes 16 seconds long long and part 2 is 4 minutes 16 seconds long. Parts 1 & 2 of the record have no visible scratches and play well but there is a small amount of the paper torn off on the label of Part 2.
